JDC Challenge Rules - How to Play

The JDC Challenge is the official three-part darts challenge combining Shanghai rounds with a doubles round across 57 darts. Used by the Junior Darts Corporation to grade player skill, it tests accuracy across the entire board and awards badge tiers based on your final score.

Winning: Highest total score across all three phases. Maximum possible: 3,380 points.

How to Play

1. The challenge has three phases thrown in order
2. Each phase has specific targets - only hits on the correct target score
3. Throw three darts per target in each phase
4. Your total score across all 57 darts determines your badge tier

The Three Phases

Phase 1: Shanghai (Targets 10-15)

• 6 targets: numbers 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
• 3 darts per target = 18 darts
• Only hits on the current target number score (face value × multiplier)
• Shanghai Bonus: Hit a Single, Double, AND Triple of the target in one turn = +100 bonus points

Phase 2: Doubles (D1-D20 + Bull)

• 21 targets: doubles D1 through D20, plus Bull
• 1 dart per target, organized into 7 rounds of 3 darts = 21 darts
• Each double hit scores 50 points
• Bull (D25) scores 100 points

Phase 3: Shanghai (Targets 15-20)

• 6 targets: numbers 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20
• 3 darts per target = 18 darts
• Same scoring as Phase 1 (face value + Shanghai bonus)

Strategy Tips

• Shanghai phases reward triples - Higher multipliers on larger numbers yield the most points
• Chase the Shanghai bonus - If you’ve hit two multipliers (e.g., S15 and D15), go for T15 for +100 bonus
• Doubles phase is about consistency - 50 points per hit adds up quickly
• Target 15 appears in both Shanghai phases - Extra practice on this number pays off twice
